Citing policies that prohibit inappropriate or offensive content, Amazon is in the process to remove QAnon products from its online platform. World’s largest online retailer observed a hike in the sale of QAnon products after QAnon followers joined last week’s US Capitol violence which left five dead.
QAnon supporters are sharing the posts on social media which are written and uploaded by an anonymous ‘Q’, who refers to be among the administration circle of US President Donald Trump. These include the baseless claim that Trump secretly is fighting a cabal of child-sex predators.
Amazon has also decided to stop hosting the web content of Parler, a social network used by some Trump supporters. The company alleged that Parler had violated the terms of service of its cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), for failing to deal with an increase in violent social media. Parler sued AWS on Monday in response.
Amazon is working as per the policies. QAnon will have to face the consequences by accepting Amazon’s decision. By taking this step, Amazon has shown its sensitivity towards the society and strong adherence to their policies.
